Data sources
- Election results: the Spanish Ministry of the Interior (Ministerio del Interior), the official certifying body for Spanish elections — turnout, votes cast and party results for the 2019 general election.
- Demographics: the Instituto Nacional de Estadística (INE) — population, age bands, gender, nationality/origin and registered unemployment by sector.
Geographic scope
We cover the nine municipalities of Val d’Aran: Vielha e Mijaran, Naut Aran, Bossòst, Les, Es Bòrdes, Vilamòs, Canejan, Arres and Bausen (INE province code 25, Lleida).
Definitions & calculations
- Turnout = votes cast ÷ registered voters × 100.
- Abstention = 100 − turnout.
- Winning margin = leading list’s share − runner-up’s share, in percentage points.
- Effective number of lists = 1 ÷ Σ(share²), a standard fragmentation measure.
- Estimated vote counts are derived by applying official percentage shares to valid votes, and are rounded.
Processing
Source data is filtered to the nine Aranese municipalities, normalised to UTF-8, joined to stable geographic coordinates, and stored in dedicated database tables. Derived metrics are computed once at import. Pages are regenerated whenever the source is refreshed.
Transparency on dates
We label the election year (2019) and the data-retrieval date separately, and never relabel historical results to appear more recent than they are.
